What is Flatwork?
Masonry flatwork is a general term meaning pouring concrete into a pre fabricated form and a liner that can be reinforced with rebar. This term can be applied to walkways, sidewalks, driveways, patios and any other project of a flat, measured surface.
What's the easiest way to ruin you home's "curb appeal? An ugly driveway. There are a variety of material that have historically been used for the drive leading up to your garage like asphalt and paving stones. The thickness, proctor density and size of rebar must be taken into account for the types of vehicles that will be using the driveway. A 4 inch thick slab with 1/2 inch rebar works well for passenger cars and trucks and goes up from there for heavier or commercial vehicles. One thing that home owners and builders have agreed upon is that concrete is the first choice for cost, durability and versatility. Stamping concrete is a fabulous way to customize your driveway, This decorative concrete technique is done with rubber templates that imprint a design onto the surface of the concrete before it is completely dried. With the selection of design templates and the option to color the concrete with permanent pigment additives the number of combinations is staggering! After an experienced craftsman has used the rubber mats to imprint the selected pattern we can add saw cuts for decoration then seal the concrete for added durability. Most sealants for driveways cause them to be slippery so we don't recommend this type of finish for a steep surface.
